Eastern Promises
(Viggo Mortensen, Naomi Watts)
Coming September 14
Jumper is a 2008 science fiction film based on the science fiction novel Jumper by Steven Gould. The film stars Hayden Christensen (who was awesome in Factory Girl), Rachel Bilson (who was awesome in The Last Kiss), Samuel L. Jackson (who is just awesome), and Diane Lane (who we like, but she’ll never be as great as Diane Keaton). Jumper is slated for a February 15, 2008 release. And here are a few stills. Surely, more will come as the release date nears!
The Kingdom is an upcoming movie starring Jamie Foxx, Chris Cooper, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman, and Brooke Langton. The story follows an elite team of U.S. government agents, led by FBI Special Agent Ronald Fleury, who are sent to investigate the bombing of an American facility in Saudi Arabia. The film was originally slated to be released on April 20, but was rescheduled after its positive reception by Universal executives as well as test audiences, for a better chance at award consideration. Its new release date is September 28. It is also produced by Academy-Award nominated director Michael Mann. Here are some stills.
The 11th Hour is a new documentary created, produced and narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio on the state of the natural environment. Its world premiere was at the 60th Annual Cannes Film Festival this year, and it is to be released on this Friday, August 17th. Here are some production stills featuring the great actor and some other people who are probably important but we are clueless as to who they are!
The upcoming drama/comedy/fantasy pic Penelope stars Christina Ricci as Penelope, James McAvoy as Max, Catherine O’Hara as Jessica Wilhern, and Reese Witherspoon as Annie. It premiered last September but is just now going to be released to theatres. And thank God because it looks very, very good! Penelope comes out on August 17th and here are some stills.
August Rush is an upcoming drama revolving around a charismatic young Irish guitarist (Jonathan Rhys Meyers) and a sheltered young cellist (the awesome Keri Russell) who have a chance encounter one magical night above New York’s Washington Square, but are soon torn apart, leaving in their wake an infant, August Rush (the best child actor around, Freddie Highmore), orphaned by circumstance. Now performing on the streets of New York and cared for by a mysterious stranger (Robin Williams), August uses his remarkable musical talent to seek the parents from whom he was separated at birth. The movie will be in theatres October 19th, and here are some stills.
One of our favorites, Jake Gyllenhaal, another one of our favorites, Reese Witherspoon, even another one of our favorites, Peter Sarsgaard, the dead grandpa from Little Miss Sunshine, Alan Arkin and, possibly the best actress alive, Meryl Streep, star in the upcoming thriller Rendition. The trailer for this movie has just been posted to YouTube and it looks excellent! The movie will be released on October 12th, and we can’t wait!
We love the Resident Evil film series. To complete the trilogy is the upcoming Resident Evil: Extinction! Starring, once again, the great Milla Jovovich, the third film looks even better than the previous two, as the trailer for it is one of the best trailers we have ever seen for an action flick. Here are some stills and don’t forget to watch it in theatres September 21st.
Beowulf, the upcoming fantasy film adaptation of the Old English epic poem seemed promising when we first heard about it. However, when the trailer was released and showed that the film used digitally enhanced live action, we were let down. We think that this special effect technique will diminish the epicness of the story by making the visuals seem too much like a video game. But, we are still a bit excited simply because Angelina Jolie is in it. No one beats her. No one in all of Hollywood is better than her. Nicole Kidman is the only close contender. Anyway, here are some stills. More to come as we near the film’s release date of November 16th.
Good Luck Chuck is an upcoming comedy starring Jessica Alba (!!) and Dane Cook (!!) that will be released on September 21st. The plot synopsis according to Wiki (we love this site) is “Chuck (Dane Cook) refused to kiss a goth girl when he was ten, and she placed a curse on him: every single woman he sleeps with breaks up with him and marries the next man she meets. Chuck soon realizes this pattern and becomes hopeful that single women will seek him out as a date, so they too will soon find Mr. Right. He then meets Cam Wexler (Jessica Alba), a lovable but clumsy penguin trainer. However he finds himself in a pickle as she constantly tries to convince him to have sex, but he doesn’t want her to marry someone else.” Here are some stills (there should be more in the near future) and we look forward to this most likely hilarious movie.
One of the most talented (and least messed up) young actresses in Hollywood is Anne Hathaway. Ever since her breakout role in The Princess Diaries six years ago, it has been nothing but an up-hill climb for the beautiful woman. Her next film is Miramax’s Becoming Jane, which also stars James McAvoy (from The Last King of Scotland), the incomparable Maggie Smith, Julie Walters, and James Cromwell. The film is based on the early life of author Jane Austen, and is being released in North America today (August 3rd)! Make sure you see the film and here are a few production stills.
The fantasy film Stardust will be released next Friday, on August 10th. The film’s ensemble cast consists of Michelle Pfeiffer (!!!), Claire Danes (!!!!), and Sienna Miller (!!!!!!). Oh…there is also Charlie Cox, Robert De Niro, Ricky Gervais, Peter O’Toole, Nathaniel Parker, Mark Strong, Rupert Everett, Jason Flemyng, Mark Heap, Adam Buxton, and last, but not least, Ian McKellen. But, let’s not forget the three most important reasons for seeing this film. Here are some stills.
Death at a Funeral, the black comedy film directed by Frank Oz and written by Dean Craig, starring Matthew Macfadyen, Rupert Graves, Alan Tudyk and Peter Dinklage, will be released in North America on August 17, 2007. It promises to be a very funny movie, and here are some production stills!
His Dark Materials: The Golden Compass, is one of this upcoming winter’s epic features. It has everything an epic movie needs: An all-star cast (Nicole Kidman, Dakota Blue Richards, Freddie Highmore, Nicole Kidman, Daniel Craig, Eva Green, Tom Courtenay, Ian McShane… and Nicole Kidman), a HUGE budget ($150 million, New Line Cinema’s biggest ever), talking animals, and a Holiday release date! How this movie differs from any other Christmas-time epic beats us. But, it has Nicole Kidman in it…so we’re going to be there opening day! Here are some production stills…expect more as the release date nears.
Jodie Foster has always been one of our favorite actresses. From her unforgettable role in The Silence of the Lambs, to her amazing part in Panic Room, Jodie has never disappointed us. Her next project, The Brave One, doesn’t seem to be a let-down either. Foster stars along with another great actor, Terrence Howard, in this action thriller where she gets to kick some ass! The movie will be released on September 14, and we have some great production stills for you guys!
The Invasion is an upcoming sci-fi flick that stars Oscar winner Nicole Kidman and Bond Boy Daniel Craig. The film was originally slated to be released in June 2006, but it was postponed to August 17, 2007. In a few weeks you can check out this highly promising thriller! Here are some production stills.
Catherine Zeta-Jones. Aaron Eckhart, and the incomparable Abigail Breslin, star in the upcoming romantic comedy No Reservations, which comes out on July 27. We think that the film looks unoriginal, bland, but we’ll watch it anyway (on DVD) because, as is true of all romantic comedies, the fluff is great when you’re bored and alone! And since Dakota Fanning isn’t in it, we have to see it! (You all have seen this brilliant SNL sketch, right?). Anyway…here are some production photos.
28 Weeks Later (starring a very hatable Robert Carlyle, Rose Byrne, and the striking Imogen Poots), the sequel to the great 2002 film 28 Days Later, was released in the United States on May 11 to very enthusiastic reviews (at least from us at Cinema-Online.org) but a poor worldwide gross of $52 million, $30 million less than it’s predescessor. Despite the unfortunate reception, we believe the movie to be among the best horror movies of all time, and definitely better than the first film. We are hoping and looking forward to a threequel from director Danny Boyle, and in the meantime we have some high quality production stills for you guys!
